bis 1925 Abọda, Dorf im Gebiet Schumen, Bulgarien, 24 km nordöstlich von Schumen. 3 km nördlich liegen die Ruinen der gleichnamigen Hauptstadt (681-893) des Ersten Bulgarischen Reiches, die im 10. Jahrhundert mehrmals zerstört und seit dem 14. Jahrhundert nicht mehr besiedelt wurde. Ausgrabungen (seit 1899) haben ein von Befestigungsanlagen (Erdwälle, Gräben, Festungsmauern und -türme) umzogenes Stadtzentrum des 8./9. Jahrhunderts mit zweistöckigem Großem Palast, Hofkirche, Kleinem Palast und Wohnungen freigelegt sowie ein äußeres Stadtgebiet mit Klöstern, Kirchen (Große Basilika), Wohnhütten, Werkstätten, Kasernen u. a. Im Zentrum der Ruinenstadt befindet sich ein Museum mit Sammlungen spätantiker und frühmittelalterlicher Plastik sowie Kunsthandwerk aus Pliska.
